Getting Started with Making Healthy Choices

We have something for your employees. It’s independent, evidence-based, complimentary, and from Consumer Reports.

It’s called Making Healthy Choices.

It’s advice on how to be a smart consumer in today’s health-care marketplace, where patients and their families are responsible for more and more of their own medical costs and decisions.

Consumer Reports has developed these resources to help your employees engage with their health-care providers. These tools can lead to informed conversations about choosing the high quality care they need while avoiding unnecessary services they don’t.

We’ve tried to make this simple for everyone.

Look at our three offerings — a video, an app, and a web page — and decide which to share with your employees. Then use the promotional materials we’ve created for you.

More medicine is not always better. We’ve all seen examples. But many people don’t realize how many tests and treatments are done without a good reason. That raises costs, and risks.

This animated video is ideal for watching during enrollment or renewal periods. While your employees have healthcare decisions on their minds, they are prompted to learn about wasteful, needless care, and how to work with their doctors to achieve the right care at the right time.

Check out the video, below. It comes in a full version, and a series of four segments.

Do you really need that medical test? That treatment? That drug?

Not always. There are lots of reasons you might be offered medical care that is not what you wanted, or needed.

So before you agree, check the Making Healthy Choices app. Finding out the answer just takes a few taps.

Check out the appright here. It is designed for Apple’s iOS devices.

Our Making Healthy Choices campaign is much more than a video and an app. Underlying those messages is evidence-based Consumer Reports advice about dozens of common tests, images, treatments and drugs.

That’s what we offer in our Making Healthy Choices web page: Complimentary access to information about antibiotics, X-rays, childbirth, painkillers, back pain, allergies, end-of-life care … and many more topics.

The goal: To drive smart conversations between patients and providers, about what health care is truly needed, and what is truly not.

Check out the web page yourselfright here. Decide how useful that information would be to your employees.
