Before elective breast surgery -- for implants or breast reduction -- your doctor may order a mammogram. Some doctors want to check for cancer, even if you have a low risk or recently had a mammogram. But most women don’t need mammograms before elective breast surgery. This is especially true for women under age 40 and women who are already getting the mammograms they need.
