The drugs that treat rheumatoid arthritis are known as either "biologics" or "non-biologics". The biologics are a newer type of drug, and are one of the top-selling prescription drugs in the U.S. But in most cases they should not be the first choice for treatment. The older non-biologics can be effective, and they cost much less.
