Hospital stays can be risky, especially for older people. The American Academy of Nursing has identified four hospital practices that are usually unnecessary and may harm you. These over-used procedures are bed rest, physical restraints, interrupted sleep and urinary catheters. If you notice doctors or nurses using any of these practices, ask why and explain your concerns.
